About St. George's

Mission Statement

We exist to serve effectively a broad spectrum of student capability, ranging from average to gifted, in a family-like atmosphere of care and concern. Our faculty is staffed and equipped to handle a broad variety of learning styles and teaching requirements, including a limited number of students with learning difficulties. We believe our student body derives great strength from its diversity.

Our purpose is to develop fully, not merely educate, each student. We want each child to grow academically, intellectually, creatively, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We want every child to have not only those skills and tools needed to function effectively in successive schools, but also to have the assurance, insight, and understanding that help an individual be happy in later life, as contributions are made to self and society.

Our goals are to do what is right and best for each girl and boy; to educate to the highest individual capability; to challenge to the full extent of personal capacity; to develop in each child a sense of true worth and moral responsibility; and, to instill value as a contributing member of the school family.

We accomplish these goals:

by being small and independent, focusing the scope and sequence of our school to tailor programs and objectives to our own particular community of children. We maintain small learning environments by providing a low pupil/teacher ratio.

by offering a curriculum firmly grounded in the basics, with emphasis given to reading, language arts, and mathematics. This emphasis is balanced by a strong commitment to the fine arts and sciences.

by including in the curriculum programs to stimulate creativity, self-growth, physical development, and personal enrichment.

by providing support services when needed through the school's Resource Services Department, integrated into the classroom curriculum.

by fostering the family model of mutual concern, totally involving the administration, parents, teachers, and children in our educational process.

by acknowledging that we are all -- students, teachers, parents -- children of God, subject to blessings that come through a life of faith within one's religion and service to others.
