St. George's Welcomes New Preschool Director

After a national search, St. George’s is pleased to welcome Emma Whitman, M.S.Ed., as our new Director of Preschool. From Ann Arbor, Michigan, Emma completed her undergraduate work at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, with a double major in child development and history. She then became a teacher in New York City while also earning her M.S. in Education from Bank Street Graduate School. After working in both private and public schools, Emma worked toward her Ph.D. in Child Development with a focus on early education from Erikson Institute in Chicago, and she is in the process of completing her dissertation.  Emma also has extensive experience in teacher training and curriculum development. Most recently, Emma worked as Assistant Director as well as Interim Director of a private preschool in Brooklyn.

“The first thing that stood out to me about St. George’s was the distinctive attention given to every child,” says Emma. “I am very excited about working with St. George’s Preschool families. One thing I love about working with younger children is their intense desire for discovery and exploration.”
