Porteous Hall

Porteous Hall:
- serves as the main building of the St. George’s campus
- houses school offices, the Mims Laudeman Library, classrooms for sixth through eighth grades, Resource rooms, maintenance facilities and the teachers’ lounge
- built in 1876 as McDonough School Number 6 by famed New Orleans architect William Freret
- is listed in the National Register of Historic Landmarks
- slated for demolition, it was purchased and restored by St. George’s in 1976

Lower School Annex

The Lower School Annex:
- houses classrooms for third through fifth grades
- fully equipped computer lab
- built in 1924 as an expansion to Porteous Hall, then occupied by the Joseph Kohn School of Commerce, an acclaimed secretarial and business school for young ladies

The Jefferson Market

The Jefferson Market:
- houses the school gym, the Forum, a music studio, an art studio, and middle school science and French labs
- erected in 1912 as Jefferson Market, an open-air farmers’ market for the City of Jefferson
- purchased and restored by St. George’s in 1989

The Early Childhood Education Center

The Early Childhood Education Center:
- houses the Gallery, classrooms for pre-K and kindergarten, lower school offices, speech and Resource Services, PIE (Program for Individual Enrichment), a photography lab, and the lower school science lab
- consists of two adjoining buildings built in 1862 as the Jefferson City Courthouse and Jail
- purchased and restored by St. George’s in 1996

The Salem Educational Center and Theatre

The Salem Educational Center:
- houses the Salem Theatre, classrooms for nursery students and first and second grades, Resource and reading rooms, and a large teachers lounge and work room
- built in 1863 as Salem United Church of Christ
- renovated in 2003 by St. George’s as part of a 60-year lease agreement with Salem Church

Pre-School Play Area

Lawrence Square
The centerpiece of the City of Jefferson – The area intersected by Napoleon Avenue and Magazine Street – was set aside as a town square to feature a large public park space and buildings. It was later named Lawrence Square.
