Dragon Players Present "Willy Wonka, Jr."
Friday, March 24, 2017
St. George’s middle school Dragon Players presented "Willy Wonka, Jr." as the annual school play on March 22nd - 24th. The show featured musical performances and a variety of impressive special effects, telling the magical story of literature's most famous candy maker. The play was based upon the beloved children's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by Roald Dahl.
The classic tale opens with Charlie Bucket (Ricky M.) and his encounters with the Candy Man (Nik R.), his time with his impoverished family (Hailey M., James H., Lexa D., Roya B., Jeremy N., Jackie B.), and his experiences hanging out with his friends (Frankie G., Anna H.). After a whirlwind search for the elusive golden ticket for a tour of Willy Wonka's famed chocolate factory, Charlie finds himself on an adventure alongside a variety of interesting characters such as Mrs. Gloop and Augustus Gloop (Eva W., William P.), Mr. Salt and Veruca Salt (James D., Kristall S.), Mickey Teavee and Mrs. Teavee (Ben K., Lucy W.), Violet Beauregarde and Mrs. Beauregarde (Kira H., Rebecca F.), and Willy Wonka, herself (Skye D.). The play was directed by Maureen Missavage with set design by Edward R. Cox, costumes and props by Patricia Carlin, along with support from Pam Skehan (Art), Catherine Ramsey (Dance/Choreography), Melissa Ladner (Creative Arts), and Hannagan Johnson (Creative Arts).
In addition to playing for packed houses in the evening, the Dragon Players presented their show to 2nd-8th grade students on March 24th. Alumni Dragon Players from the classes of 2013-2016 attended the show as a group on March 23rd.
Thank you to all of our teachers, parents and students who helped to make the show possible!
