Talented & Gifted Program (TAG)
At St. George’s, we believe that all students deserve continuous progress in their educations. This is especially true for students who have a demonstrated high ability in one or more academic subjects or creative endeavors. From enrichment to acceleration, it is our goal to challenge our talented and gifted students academically and creatively and afford them every challenge in the classroom they deserve, all the while developing the characteristics and skills needed to become productive citizens.
The Talented and Gifted Program (TAG) was specifically created to challenge students who demonstrate gifted behaviors and/or learning potential. The goals of the program are to challenge students' cognitive, affective, creative and leadership abilities within an academic subject or an area outside of the classroom curriculum. In addition to the standard curriculum offered at St. George's, TAG students participate in highly specialized and unique learning opportunities.
The curriculum is dynamic and offers courses in various areas, including Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language and the arts. Admission to the program is based on a combination of standardized test scores, school performance and recommendations (teacher, parent, and self). Students are carefully placed into courses based on their strengths and talents. Our objective is to tailor the courses to the participants to truly offer an ideal enrichment experience.
St. George’s regularly sends teachers to Confratute at the University of Connecticut, arguably the best gifted education conference in the nation. Additionally, we have a membership in the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) and an ongoing partnership with Duke’s Talent Identification Program and teacher institute. We are also very well trained in recognizing gifted underachievers and twice-exceptional students, and we consult regularly with our resource program professionals in order to best serve our students.
Be on the lookout! Throughout the TAG pages, you’ll find spotlight features highlighting some of our wonderful faculty instructors.
