St. George's Hosts Annual Spring Celebration

Friday, April 28, 2017

St. George’s Episcopal School held the Spring Celebration on April 27th in the newly expanded Michael R. Boh Early Childhood Center. The annual event serves as the spring board meeting and an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments and milestones of the school year. Parents and faculty were invited to enjoy cocktails, live music and tours of the new building as part of the evening.

Lower School chaplain Lindsey Ardrey opened the evening with prayer before the guests enjoyed a buffet-style dinner and passed hors d’oeuvres provided by Event Helpers of Greater New Orleans. Chairman of the Board and parent Greg Schafer then shared thoughts on the unique culture of love and family at St. George’s. He also reflected on the importance of the early childhood center expansion and encouraged parents to tour the new space, which has allowed the school to offer enrollment to 100 more preschool students than in previous years, helping to narrow the gap in early childhood opportunities available throughout the city.

Outgoing Parents Group President Cathy Schieffelin gave an update on the activities and fundraising accomplishments for 2016-17. The group raised money throughout the year in support of the school through events like Knight at City Park, the soiree, book fair, and wrapping paper sales. A large percentage will be awarded to the school in the form of allocations – faculty requests for training, technology and equipment needed in the classroom. Schieffelin also introduced and welcomed incoming Parents Group President Rachel Alltmont, who thanked her for her tireless leadership during the past year.

Headmaster Dr. Rob Eichberger also shared a few highlights from the year along with an overall state of the school message, noting the particular commendations from the Independent Schools of the Southwest (ISAS) site visit in the fall. The visiting committee recognized the school’s overwhelming commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for students and the dedication of the faculty and staff for its daily work to support the mission of St. George’s. The committee also commended the school for the completion of the Michael R. Boh Early Childhood Center, noting that the project would help to ensure the continued success and sustainability of the school for years to come.

We would like to extend a special thanks to parents Krystil Lawton for chairing the dinner and Cathy Schieffelin for ensuring an enjoyable time was had by all in attendance. We also thank our early childhood faculty for opening up their classrooms to our guests.
