Fund for St. George's Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the Fund for St. George's Campaign?

Our annual giving is vitally important as St. George's relies on income from charitable contributions to help reach a balanced budget each year. This is because the actual cost of educating each student is significantly greater than the tuition we pay. Annual Giving provides the necessary means for St. George's to close this "gap."

What is the "gap"?

The "gap" is the difference between your tuition payment and the school's actual cost per student. Based on the budget approved at the beginning of the school year, St. George's will spend an additional $1,250 per student. We ask each family to help us close the "gap" by contributing this amount.

What would happen without the Fund for St. George's?

St. George's continues to offer an unsurpassed student-to-teacher ratio in an atmosphere that is nurturing and family-like, yet academically challenging. Income from Annual Giving allows us to provide such necessities as teacher salaries, educational technology, program materials and equipment. Without the support of our generous donors like you, St. George's simply cannot maintain this standard of excellence. Raising tuition is also not an option because it would make a St. George's education out of reach for many of our current families.

Who typically donates?

The vast majority of contributions come from the Board of Trustees, current parents and grandparents, although we also depend on the participation of alumni families, faculty, friends, foundations and corporations.

We already support other school fundraisers. What's the difference, and why should we participate in both?

Gifts made to the fund are directly and immediately applied to the school's current year operating budget to offset costs not covered by tuition income. This means that your gift benefits every student, every day of this school year. Gifts are not dedicated to future building or renovation projects, nor are they applied toward fundraising projects conducted by the Parents Group.

How much should I contribute?

We ask each family to participate at a level appropriate for that family's unique financial circumstances. All we ask is that you give no more or no less than you are able. Every gift, regardless of size, is important to this effort and helps to support the school in essential ways. We strive to have 100% participation from current St. George's families.

How can I make a contribution?

There are many ways to participate in the Fund for St. George's Campaign. You can mail a check to St. George's (payable to St. George's Episcopal School). You can contribute online using your Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Or, you can contact the Advancement Office to receive instructions on how to give a gift of stock. Gifts may be made at one time or in installments and may extend throughout the remainder of the school year. We are a 501(c)(3) corporation, so gifts are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Will my employer match my Annual Giving contribution?

Many companies match charitable contributions given by their employees. This is a great way to multiply your gift and have an even bigger impact at St. George's. You can find out if your or your spouse's employer is a matching gift company by checking this list of nationwide matching gift companies or by contacting your human resources department. If your company does participate in a matching gift program, please obtain a matching gift form, fill it out and send it to St. George's with your pledge or contribution.
